There are 2 very similar looking buttons on the sides of the unit - right hand side is squelch, and left side, directly under your push to talk button, is a dual purpose scrambler and Man Overboard button. Both have red writing to label them.
Don't hit the wrong button when trying to adjust the squelch. MOB sends a DSC distress message to all and sundry and it WILL be picked up and acted on promptly by MRV. The distress functionality should be be limited to the distress button under the safety flap, but that is not the case with this radio. Having a DSC alert button directly under push to talk and labeled in the same style as the squelch is a design fraught with danger of inadvertent activation when in a hurry (such as at the start of a yacht race.)
A good unit, but bit hungry on battery (it'll happen with GPS equipped gear, and you can't disable GPS for obvious reasons) and must be plugged into 240v to recharge - no replaceable battery, caddy or cradle. Not a good choice for offshore but OK for day trips. (Posted on 28/08/2018)
