AWG

American Wire Gauge is a standard set of non-ferrous wire conductor sizes based on the wire's diameter or 'gauge'. The cross-sectional area of each gauge is an important factor for determining the wire's current-carrying capacity.

Non-ferrous includes copper, aluminum and other materials, but is most frequently applied to copper household electrical wiring and telephone wiring.
