Pounds per square inch - a Way of measuring atmospheric pressure. It is the pressure resulting from a force of one pound-force applied to an area of one square inch.

Atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 14.7 PSI.

 

There are many pressure instruments which measure PSI - for example, some barometers and pressure transducers.

 

There are several different forms of measurement under PSI, some of which include:

  • PSIG (guage pressure - relative to ambient atmospheric pressure)
  • PSIA (absolute pressure - relative to a full vacuum)
