Ritchie - CH Smith Marine

Ritchie

Physicist Edward S. Ritchie began developing the first U.S. manufactured marine compass in 1850. Eleven years later in 1861 the US Navy put out a call for US manufactured marine navigational instruments after seeing the samples the US Navy placed an order for 26 Ritchie compasses, 10 liquid filled. News spread and by 1900, the company now known as E.S. Ritchie & Sons had sold over 30,000 marine compasses without advertising.

Today the quality Richie marine navigation compass continues, but has also moved into expanding markets with on and off road vehicles and motor bike mount compasses, compasses for kayaks, dinghies and all sports, but the boat compass is still their core product. Available in flush mount, bracket mount, dash mount and binnacle mount, the Richie compass has stood the test of time and still has quality at its core.
