Pahang Cane used for Lemur Island at Melbourne Zoo

This morning we received a container load of Red >Pahang Cane.

Available in approximately 25kg bundles, Cane is more versatile than >Bamboo as it has the ability to be bent and therefore used in many different ways.

After being soaked in water for 12 hours, the Cane is bendable and able to be woven into baskets or lobster pots, furniture and much more.

The Melbourne Zoo will be utilising this great product in their new Rainforest Entry Exhibit accommodating the Ring Tail Lemurs.

Pahang Cane is being used in many elements of this project including the 10m long entry tunnel which visitors will enter through (pictured). This will be woven by volunteers, using a Metal framework to support the Cane.

Also, seven giant walk-through tree-house ‘pods’ (pictured) will be woven onto steel frame work by experienced artists and five smaller ‘pods’ for the lemurs will be assembled in the exhibit.

This new exhibit is scheduled for opening in mid December 2013 and shows just one of many ways in which >Pahang Cane is able to be used.
