Worlds Oldest fish hooks! What A Catch!
We all love to get out and wet a Line, turns out it may be a little more generational than we thought!!
SCIENCE Magazine recently published a new article which claims archaeologists have discovered evidence of the earliest Fish hook manufacture in the world.
Fish remains, dated from 42,000 to 2,700 years before the present, were found in the Jerimalai shelter in East Timor. The hooks (right) were also discovered and were dated as being between 23,000 and 16,000 years old.
SCIENCE went on to say, "Capturing Pelagic Fish such as tuna requires high levels of planning and complex maritime technology. The evidence implies that the inhabitants were fishing in the deep sea."
Pretty mind blowing stuff, isn''t it?
Prior to that, Fish hooks have been traced back to Egypt 9000 years ago.
