ForwardScan Sonar - Putting You Ahead
Unlike traditional Sonar that will only show boaters where they have been, the new ForwardScan Sonar technology provides a clear image of the water column and ocean floor in front of the Boat. ForwardScan alerts boaters to potential dangers, offering complete Navigation confidence and added peace of mind in unfamiliar waters. Designed for boats of every size, the ForwardScan Transducer can be fitted on almost any kind of vessel, preventing you from running Aground.
Navico ForwardScan Sonar rapidly displays bottom imagery up to 8 times the current depth with the normal operating Range usually 4 to 5 times the depth. It also integrates with your on board Simrad NSS evo2, NSO Evo2 or B&G Zeus2 MFDs, on multiple displays simultaneously and via GoFree on a tablet or smartphone.
Operating at 180kHz to reduce interference from traditional 200kHz echo sounders, it transmits and receives up to 10 times faster than previous forward looking systems, providing a real time update.
Shallow water Navigation is made easy as bottom colour tracking provides a simple view of the bottom removing the users need to analyse the data points while delivering a highly visible method of understanding the depth in front of you.
As can be seen in the second image on the right, you can choose the red, yellow and green depth Range based on Boat Draft, as the forward Range scale is synced with the distance of the Heading Line. ForwardScan Heading Line View lets you maximise the Navigation page by combining the ForwardScan depth data into the Heading Line extension.
Integration options:
- Directly connect to StructureScan connection on a SonarHub in a B&G Zeus2 system, leaving the CHIRP Sonar connection free for use with a depth sensor.
- Directly connected to StructureScan connection on a NSS Evo2 product leaving the Sounder port free to be connected to a Chirp Transducer. Only one Transducer can be used at a time in this configuration.
- Directly connected to StructureScan connection on one NSS Evo2 leaving the Sounder Port free on the other NSS Evo2 to be connected to a Chirp Transducer. This allows both Transducers to be used simultaneously and share both Sounder and ForwardScan between units.
- Connect to the SonarHub, the 3 Port Ethernet switch allows connection to both NSO Evo2’s and BSM-3 Performance sounder, allowing Dual CHIRP Transducers and ForwardScan to be available across the network.
If you are wanting to integrate with an NSS Evo2, Zeus2 or SonarHub, you will need to first update your device with the free software update available on the Simrad support page and B&G support page closer to the release date.
