Dead Zone
A term used to describe the area within the Sonar Beam that receives the transmitted Sonar signal AFTER the main bottom return. Fish and other objects within this zone, either close to the bottom or over the ledge, will not be 'visible' on most Fish finders. Depth sounders with narrow Sonar beams will have a smaller dead zone than those with wider Sonar beams when used to analyse the same bottom.
