VGA
Similar Terms: Video Graphics Array
VGA is the acronym for Video Graphics Array and specifically refers to the display hardware introduced by IBM back in 1987. Due to its widespread adoption however, it has also been used to describe a standard display in analog computing, the 15-pin D-subminiature VGA connector or the 640×480 Resolution. VGA Resolution has become one of the de facto industry standards for many screen displays.
This Resolution has now been superseded in the personal computer market, but is becoming increasingly popular on mobile devices. Graphics displays are described by the width and height dimensions of a display (or screen) in Pixels. In text mode, VGA systems provide a Resolution of 720 X 400 Pixels. In graphics mode, the Resolution can be either 640 X 480 (with 16 colors) or 320 X 200 (with 256 colors).
