The ability to show fine detail. Better resolution provides better discrimination among individual objects.

 

Displays: Often used to describe the number of Pixels along each dimension of a screen (eg. 1024x768) that determines the clarity and detail a screen can display. Proper term is Pixel dimensions, as resolution properly refers to Pixel density (eg Pixels per inch).

 

For cameras, sometimes resolution will be measured by 'television lines' (TVL).
