Voltage

Similar Terms: Volts,mV,millivolt

Voltage, noted as V and also called electromotive force, is a quantitative expression of the potential difference in charge between two points in an electrical field.

Voltage can be measured in AC (Alternating Current) or DC (Direct Current).

The greater the voltage, the greater the flow of electrical Current (that is, the quantity of charge carriers that pass a fixed point per unit of time) through a conducting or semiconducting medium for a given resistance to the flow.

From time to time you may also see voltage measured in mV, or millivolts. There are 1000 millivolts in 1 V.

Sometimes you may also see voltage described as LV (low voltage), MV (medium voltage), or HV (high voltage).
